The “Europe 2020: Innovation in the Mediterranean”  international seminar and masterclass concerning the cooperation inside the macroareas  will be held in Florence on  January 27,  2011 promoted by the Tuscany Region in the framework of the MEDGOVERNANCE project.

Actually the cooperation inside the macroareas is getting more and more important in the European Union and several other countries, mainly due to early experiments undertaken by the Scandinavian countries with the approval of the Baltic Strategy by 27 countries and the European Union.

In this context, only a decisive political and planning action can lead to transform the Mediterranean region from the bond and the "cost" to a great opportunity for the European system and this action will have to move in two directions:
  • a policy of regional cohesion between the regions of the Mediterranean to strengthen its competitiveness in the Mediterranean area and
  • a Mediterranean cohesion Policy as a whole made of macro-projects shared with the countries of the southern shore.
